Sleep disorder
Sleep disorder also known as somnipathy affects approximately 70 million Americans. Each person suffers from one sleep disorder or another. The medical disorder is characterized by any following condition that can prevent a person from sleeping peacefully. An individual with sleeping disorder does not loss actual sleep,but however; the dysfunction it causes during the waking hour when people are active throughout the day. Some sleep disorders are serious enough to interfere with normal physical, mental, social, and emotional functioning.Insomnia is one of the 6 sleeping disorders. It is a persistent disease that makes it difficult to fall asleep , stay asleep or sometimes even both.Women are more likely to have insomnia than men. Having insomnia causes you to feel refreshed once awaken, which takes an overall toll on your ability to function during the day. Not only does Insomnia sap your energy level and mood but it may also cause an effect on your health,quality of life,and work performance.There are two types of insomnia: primary insomnia and secondary insomnia. Primary insomnia is defined as a person with sleep problems that are not associated with any other health problems. Secondary insomnia means the opposite; someone is having sleep problems due to health conditions such as asthma, depression, arthritis , cancer, or heartburn, The secondary insomnia may also be caused by medication a person is taking or a substance they use such as alcohol. There is short term insomnia also known as acute insomnia, along with longtime insomnia which is better known as chronic insomnia. The disease may also come and go with periods of time when a person has no sleep problems. Acute insomnia could last one night or up to a few weeks all depending on the person. The causes of acute insomnia varies from significant like stress, illness, emotional discomfort and medications. Other causes may come from environmental factors like noise, light , or extreme temperatures. Insomnia is called chronic when a person has insomnia at least three nights a week for a month or longer. The cause of chronic insomnia ranges from chronic stress, depression, and/or anxiety , and pain or discomfort at night.Symptoms of insomnia includes sleepiness during the day, general tiredness, irritability, and/or problems with concentration or memory. In order to diagnose insomnia patients may need to talk to their local health care provider. The conversation with the physician will be followed by an evaluation that may include a physical exam, a sleep history report, and a medical history report. The patient may also be asked to keep a diary of their sleep patterns for up to two weeks. The physician may also want for the individual to keep track of how they feel throughout the day.
